HURRICANE FIONA FROM MADISON TO PUERTO RICO

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Five years after Hurricane Maria, the people on the island of Puerto Rico have again been devastated by another hurricane in Fiona that has only reopened the wounds of multiple past disasters and unfulfilled commitments to recovery from them. Following Hurricane Maria, the greater Madison community rallied around Puerto Rico, raising nearly $100,000 for relief efforts throughout the island and supporting several grassroots organizations focusing on housing, domestic violence prevention, food security, access to safe water, and renewable energy. These organizations continue to serve the most vulnerable people in Puerto Rico.

Madison stands with Puerto Rico, and we ask that you support these trusted organizations.

COLECTIVA SOLIDARIDAD

Provide support to existing mutual aid initiatives and organizations from afar and on the ground, manifested as (but not limited to) monetary donations, technological support, hands-on work, and connection to other like-minded organizations throughout NYC and Washington D.C

G.O.D. CORPORATION

A grassroots organization focusing on those most marginalized in our community such as confined older adults by supporting them with groceries, hot meals, first aid resources, and water filters.

A nonprofit organization that seeks to eradicate hunger in Puerto Rico through strategies of collective work and socialization of resources in favor of the majority of our people.

VIEQUES EN RESCATE

Their priority is to develop alternatives for physical, social, and emotional health. Providing participants with maritime and terrestrial transportation services between Vieques and Puerto Rico to make their appointments and receive cancer treatments.

FIONA COMMUNITY RESPONSE FUND

It aims to address BOTH the immediate humanitarian needs AND long-term power-building work to advance an equitable recovery. It is led by a coalition of community-led organizations working on immediate response to fulfill needs over the short- and long-term. It is a partnership of approximately 25 organizations

CASA JULIA DE BURGOS

The first shelter for women survivors of Victims of Domestic Violence, it was established in Puerto Rico in 1979. Through shelter, orientation, and counseling services, the participants are guided towards a process of empowerment through which they recognize their potential to take control and live a life free of violence.

TECHOS PA MI GENTE

Techos Pa' Mi Gente (TPMG Corp.) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the construction of decent roofs and the rehabilitation of homes in communities affected by natural disasters. It contributes to improving the quality of life of the individuals that make up these communities. Promotes self-management and provides training in basic construction skills to build resilience.
